Evanescence is “The quality of being fleeting or vanishing quickly”
The concept behind this styled shoot was inspired by timelessness and rugged beauty. Embracing the unknown, finding beauty in imperfections and simplicity. Most times couples get so caught up in trying to plan the ‘perfect’ wedding or elopement. This shoot was created to inspire couples to let go, to fall in love with imperfection and embrace impermanence, while creating their own beautiful evanescent memories.
Inspired by timelessness and rugged beauty
Ballet was a big part of this styled shoot to bring the concept to life, to evoke emotion and portray the idea of lightness or being fleeting. I was also a ballet dancer once upon a time, so putting this shoot together was pretty special. “Less is more” Is something we abide by, so this shoot was quite a pared back shoot; we wanted the space, the foliage, the textures and mood to take centre stage. The indoor Space – The Beehive Cultural Exchange built as the Mining Exchange, a 19th-century building located on Dja Dja Wurrung land (Bendigo), was a wonderful space to explore creative photography and create something new.
Oh my goodness the bouquet! It was absolutely stunning, see for yourself! Located down a secluded laneway, Heather from Libertine Florist Bendigo took our breath away with what she put together. It was like she read my mind and it was everything I hoped for and more. The light pink roses not only looked amazing but smelt divine. The mix of textures and colours of the leaves contributed to the overall concept of this shoot creating more magic.
Handmade wedding invitations
Blue Bird Invitations stationery products were also one of my favourite pieces from the shoot. The delicate handmade wedding invitations really echoed the concept of this shoot. Although they are based in Queensland, the products arrived in Melbourne within a couple of days! So if you want quick and beautiful bespoke stationery, look no further and checkout these beautiful wedding invitations online.
Bespoke custom wedding gown
Belinda Pieris was a joy to work with. The bespoke custom blouse she made with the intricate details on feather light chiffon was just so incredible. With ballet being such a bit part of the shoot, I knew I had to reach out to Belinda whose work is all about movement and the blouse fit like a dream. This paired with the Leanne Marshall skirt I purchased online was a match made in heaven.
A feathered handmade boutonniere
The lightness of a feather fit perfectly with the overall concept, when choosing the Boutonniere. It was beautifully handmade by Field House Design Co (formerly known as Pomp and Plumage), an online wedding adornments store on Etsy. My husband, Stefan wore this exact same boutonniere on our wedding day 7 years ago. The Tarocash navy coat gave the right amount of style and elegance for this shoot.
“We wanted to remind ourselves of what it felt like being on the other side of the lens”
I think we may have forgotten to mention we were the ‘models’ of this styled shoot, but you may have already guessed. Stefan and I challenged each other to work with limited resources and were also the stylists, directors and photographers of this shoot. It was hard work to do it all, but we were so happy with how the photos turned out. Most importantly, we wanted to remind ourselves of what it felt like being on the other side of the lens. To us, it is really important as photographers, to make our clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. We know not everyone has the experience being a model and we’ve been there, whether it be on our wedding day, or moments like this where we give each other a challenge. So we want you to know we feel you and completely understand. We have to say though, through all of this hard work what we loved most was the opportunity to photograph each other, surrounded by the incredible creative talent of all the vendors involved.
